Alonso Goes Yard Twice as Orioles Demolish Rangers in Texas

The Baltimore Orioles came to Arlington on Sunday and reminded everyone why they’re a serious threat down the stretch, absolutely demolishing the Texas Rangers 10-5 in a performance that was equal parts dominant and aesthetically pleasing. Pete Alonso was the headliner here, and boy did he deliver, going deep twice and finishing with four RBIs in what amounts to a statement victory for a team that refuses to go quietly into August.

Let’s be honest about what we witnessed: Kumar Rocker got absolutely shelled. The Rangers’ right-hander lasted exactly three innings, surrendering seven hits and six earned runs while walking two. That’s not acceptable at any level of professional baseball, and it set the tone for what became a one-sided affair at Globe Life Field. By the time Rocker was mercifully removed from the game, the Orioles had already built a commanding early lead.

Alonso’s One-Man Show

Alonso’s first blast came in the second inning, a two-run shot to left field that made it 3-0 Baltimore. Then, in the fourth, he struck again, this time launching a two-run homer to left-center on a 3-1 count. Two homers, four RBIs, perfect at the plate. This is what the Orioles envisioned when they acquired him, a legitimate middle-of-the-order run producer who could carry a team through the September gauntlet. On Sunday, he looked every bit the part.

The supporting cast deserves credit too. Colton Cowser hit a solo shot in the second inning, Tyler O'Neill went yard in the sixth, and Jackson Holliday continued his productive stretch at the plate. The Orioles’ lineup was clicking, executing small ball early (Dylan Beavers’ single in the first, Leody Taveras’ double), then pivoting seamlessly into power baseball when the opportunities presented themselves. That’s playoff baseball right there.

Rangers Make Late Push, Fall Short

To Texas’s credit, Brandon Nimmo‘s three-run homer in the third inning at least made things interesting temporarily, cutting Baltimore’s lead to 4-3. And in the ninth, the Rangers showed some life with Nicky Lopez’s RBI triple and Ezequiel Duran’s groundout RBI, pulling within five runs. But at that point, the game was already decided. The Orioles had too much firepower, too much precision, and quite frankly, the Rangers simply couldn’t keep pace.

Yaramil Hiraldo picked up the win with two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, striking out three while allowing just one hit. This is the kind of game that looks even more impressive in hindsight, a total team victory where the starter struggled but the relief corps shut the door and the offense put up double digits.

The Orioles improved to another win on the road, and more importantly, they sent a clear message: they’re not intimidated by anyone, anywhere. Alonso’s two-homer game was the cherry on top of a dominant performance that should have Rangers fans questioning whether this team can compete with the elite teams in the American League. For Baltimore, it was exactly the kind of Sunday afternoon statement they needed.
