Mariners Walk Off Dodgers Behind Canzone’s Two-Homer Night

The Seattle Mariners came to Los Angeles and did what too few teams manage anymore: they beat Shohei Ohtani and the Dodgers in a game that mattered. Final score 7-6, and if you watched this Tuesday night slugfest, you understand why this victory stings a little deeper than your standard mid-summer loss.

Let’s be clear about something. Ohtani went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a home run. The man was tremendous, starting the festivities with a 432-foot leadoff bomb that made you wonder if the Dodgers might cruise to another easy win. But baseball is gloriously indifferent to individual greatness, and the Mariners proved it by simply refusing to lose.

Canzone Carries the Load in Crucial Spot

Dominic Canzone was the story here, and rightfully so. Two home runs. Two different moments where this game could’ve swung either direction, and both times Canzone stepped up and delivered thunder. His first shot came in the sixth inning when the Mariners needed to answer back. His second, in the eighth, proved to be the difference maker in a game that went right down to the wire.

The Mariners’ entire lineup contributed to what turned into a season-high five-homer performance. Cal Raleigh went deep for his eleventh of the year. Julio Rodriguez, looking like the star the Mariners believed he could be, crushed one to left. Rob Refsnyder contributed a two-run shot that extended the lead at exactly the right moment. This wasn’t just a power display. It was timely, purposeful baseball.

Dodgers Can’t Quite Get There

The Dodgers offense certainly showed up. Max Muncy launched a 430-foot missile that probably would’ve been a home run at most ballparks. Tommy Edman drove in a run with a sharp double. But here’s the thing about baseball in late July: when you’re facing a team that refuses to quit, and you can’t quite pull away, you’re vulnerable. Los Angeles could feel it slipping away in the eighth inning when Canzone connected again, and by the time the ninth rolled around, it was too late.

Brock Stewart took the loss in a brief appearance, but the real issue was that the Dodgers’ pitching simply couldn’t keep the Mariners’ bats in check. Five home runs will beat you almost every night of the week, even against the defending division leaders.

The Mariners hit a season-high five home run game

José Ferrer picked up the win in relief, working a clean inning, while Andrés Muñoz saved it with a 1.0 IP appearance that probably felt longer than it was. The Mariners proved something important on Tuesday night at UNIQLO Field at Dodger Stadium. They proved that they belong in any conversation about contenders in the West. They proved that you don’t need a perfect night to beat a perfect opponent. Sometimes you just need to outlast them.

For Seattle, this is the kind of victory that teams remember in September.
