Luzardo Was Virtually Untouchable

But this game belonged to Luzardo. The Phillies’ ace was magnificent, scattering four hits over six innings while striking out nine and walking nobody. That’s the kind of performance you circle on the calendar. Wacha gave Kansas City a chance with seven strikeouts of his own, but he simply didn’t have the stuff needed to keep pace with a Phillies lineup in full attack mode. Once Realmuto and Rincones Jr. went deep in the fourth, the trajectory of this game was set in stone.

Another Fifth Wheel Performance

Rincones Jr. added an RBI double in the eighth for good measure, because when you’re rolling, you keep rolling. Kyle Schwarber’s 3-for-4 night without a homer somehow felt understated given the explosion happening around him. The Phillies’ depth is genuinely scary, and Saturday’s performance at Kauffman was a reminder that when this lineup gets hot, opposing pitchers might as well be throwing beach balls.

The Royals, despite the impressive strikeout numbers from Wacha and a decent defensive effort, simply didn’t have an answer.
