The Rays added an insurance run in the sixth when Cedric Mullins delivered a sacrifice fly, scoring Victor Mesa Jr. from third base and extending Tampa Bay’s lead to 4-1. It was textbook baseball execution, the kind of small-ball precision that separates good teams from pretenders.

Marte’s Solo Shot Too Little, Too Late

Arizona’s only answer came in the eighth inning when Ketel Marte got around on a fastball and drove it to center field for a solo blast, his 14th of the season. Marte’s solo shot cut the deficit to just two runs and provided the Diamondbacks with a sliver of hope, but by then it was far too little and far too late.

Bryan Baker closed out the game with a scoreless ninth inning, sealing the 4-2 victory for Tampa Bay. The Rays’ bullpen was effective when it mattered, and that made all the difference in a ballgame where homers determined the outcome.

This loss stings for Arizona because it never really felt like they brought their best game on Saturday. The Diamondbacks were outhit 8-4 and unable to capitalize on their early advantages.
