Twins Break Through Gore’s Strikeout Fest to Edge Rangers

Sometimes the best pitching performances end in losses, and MacKenzie Gore‘s Monday night masterclass at Globe Life Field was Exhibit A. The Rangers’ ace struck out 10 batters over seven innings while allowing just four hits, yet walked away with an L next to his name. That’s baseball, folks, and it’s exactly why MacKenzie Gore can’t fall asleep tonight.

The damage came early and came hard. Josh Bell, wearing his power stroke like a crown, launched a three-run homer in the top of the first that immediately put Minnesota up 3-0. This wasn’t a cheapie off the wall, either. Bell’s blast sailed to left field with purpose and authority, announcing to everyone in Arlington that the Twins weren’t interested in playing a pitching duel. In a game that would ultimately be decided by two runs, those first-inning runs proved absolutely critical.

Gore was brilliant despite the early setback. Ten strikeouts is elite stuff, and his ability to miss bats kept the Rangers in this thing longer than they deserved to be. The problem was simple: his offense couldn’t string together consistent pressure. Texas got what it could, with Joc Pederson crushing a two-run homer in the third to cut it to 3-2, but the Rangers never got that crucial rally going when they needed it most.

Buxton’s Insurance and Bullpen Drama

Byron Buxton, who’s quietly having an excellent season with 23 dingers already, provided insurance in the sixth with a solo shot to left-center. One swing, one run, but it proved to be the difference maker. Buxton went 1-for-4 with that crucial blast, and while his overall numbers weren’t spectacular, that’s what playoffs (or in this case, pennant races) are all about. One swing. One moment. That’s all it takes.

What’s somewhat laughable here is watching the Twins’ bullpen situation unfold. Taylor Rogers got credited with the win despite pitching just 0.1 innings. Zero innings pitched. The guy threw one-third of an inning with no hits, no runs, no walks, and one strikeout. In what universe is that a win? That’s where baseball’s antiquated winning pitcher rule becomes almost comical. Rogers should be credited with a save situation resolved, not a victory. The real hero was Yoendrys Gomez, who pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless ball to earn his own save.

Gore’s Bad Luck, Rangers’ Missed Opportunities

The Rangers had opportunities. Austin Martin made a diving catch that provided solid defense for Minnesota, and the Twins’ pitching staff held Texas to just two runs. But here’s the reality: you can’t score two runs against a team fighting for playoff position and expect to win. Gore deserved better. He pitched like a Cy Young candidate and got burned by early miscues and an inferior offense.

Condensed Game: MIN@TEX – 6/15/26

Minnesota walks out of Arlington with a critical road victory. These are the games that matter in tight divisional races, and the Twins made the plays when it counted. Josh Bell was the hero, Byron Buxton was clutch, and Gore’s masterpiece became just another strikeout-filled loss for a Rangers team that simply couldn’t keep pace. That’s how close baseball is sometimes.
