Grant Holmes deserves substantial credit here. In six innings of work, the Braves right-hander allowed just five hits and two earned runs while striking out four. More importantly, he commanded his fastball and didn’t beat himself. Patrick Corbin, saddled with the loss, lasted just five innings and gave up four earned runs on six hits. The Braves got to him early, and Corbin never recovered. This is the kind of pitching matchup Atlanta should win every time, and they did exactly that.

The Braves’ lineup was simply clicking. Matt Olson went 3-for-4 and was productive in every at-bat, even if the hits didn’t come with RBIs attached. Albies and Dubón carried the offensive load with six combined RBIs. This is what a potent Atlanta lineup looks like when everyone’s contributions stack up: death by a thousand cuts, except sometimes those cuts are 400-foot bombs.

A Forgettable Night for Toronto

For the Blue Jays, this was simply a night to forget. Corbin didn’t have it, and you can’t win ballgames when you spot the other team four runs and they keep adding on.
