To Baltimore’s credit, they didn’t roll over entirely. Pete Alonso, the Orioles’ designated hitter, belted a solo shot in the fourth to keep things somewhat respectable. Samuel Basallo drove in Gunnar Henderson with a sharp double in the sixth, and Taylor Ward recorded an RBI on a groundout in the seventh as Dylan Beavers scored. These were the moments that could have mattered if Bradish had been sharper early, but baseball doesn’t reward moral victories.

The Yankees essentially put the game away with a three-run seventh inning that featured a Bellinger single and a Jazz Chisholm Jr. knock that scored Judge and Bellinger after Aaron Judge had already advanced to third. At that point, even the most optimistic Orioles fan knew this one was finished.

This was a statement game for the Yankees, though perhaps a quieter one than headlines typically suggest. Bellinger’s perfect night at the plate overshadowed everything else, as it should have.
