The Padres scraped together three runs courtesy of Bogaerts’ homer, Ty France’s RBI single, and Luis Campusano’s line drive single, but it simply wasn’t enough ammunition against a Cubs team that finally found its groove at the plate.

Bogaerts went deep with a solo shot in the second inning, proving once again that he remains one of the few bright spots in an otherwise disappointing Padres lineup. But one home run doesn’t win ballgames in 2026, especially when your pitching staff surrenders eight runs.

The Cubs improved to a respectable record with this victory, while the Padres continue to underwhelm in their own house.
