Stanton Powers Yankees Past Red Sox Shutout at Fenway

There are nights when baseball rewards patience, and there are nights when one man simply decides the game is over before it begins. Tuesday at Fenway belonged entirely to Giancarlo Stanton, who reminded everyone why he remains one of the most dangerous hitters on the planet when he’s locked in. The Yankees dominated the Red Sox 4-0, and frankly, it wasn’t nearly as close as the scoreboard might suggest.

Let’s start with the obvious. Stanton was magnificent. He collected three RBIs on just four at-bats, punctuating his performance with a 111.5 mph laser of a solo home run in the second inning that left the Fenway faithful in stunned silence. That wasn’t a baseball so much as a guided missile aimed directly at left field. Then, as if one highlight reel moment wasn’t enough, Stanton doubled down in the sixth with a two-run double off the bat, scoring both Judge and Rosario. This is peak Stanton, the version of the man that makes $325 million contracts look like bargains.

But here’s where we have to tip our cap to the Yankees’ pitching. Luis Gil was absolutely surgical on Tuesday night, tossing 6.1 innings of two-hit, zero-earned-run baseball with three walks and two strikeouts. That’s not flashy stuff, but it’s the kind of pitching that wins ballgames in April when momentum matters. Gil didn’t overpower anyone, but he didn’t need to. He was precise, economical, and utterly effective. Connelly Early struggled for Boston, surrendering three earned runs in just 5.1 innings while walking three Yankees hitters. That’s an invitation to trouble in the Bronx, and the Bronx accepted.

The Red Sox Limped Out of This One

Boston’s offense was anemic. Two hits through nine innings? That’s not baseball, that’s a funeral. Ceddanne Rafaela had a spectacular leaping catch in center field that actually prevented further embarrassment, but one highlight-reel defensive play doesn’t erase the reality that the Red Sox bats were completely silent. Alex Cora’s team needed to generate something, anything, to keep pace with a Yankees squad that clearly had its power stroke working.

The Bullpen Closes It Out

After Gil exited, the Yankees’ relief corps was crisp and efficient. David Bednar secured the shutout with a clean final two innings, finishing what Gil started. This is what playoff-caliber baseball looks like in late April, and the Yankees served notice Tuesday that they came to Boston ready for business.

Randal Grichuk's RBI double

Randal Grichuk added an insurance run with a line-drive double in the eighth, scoring Cody Bellinger and essentially putting any remaining nail in Boston’s coffin. The Yankees weren’t just winning, they were suffocating the life out of their rivals with methodical precision.

This was the kind of performance that creates divisions in September. The Yankees have their ace working, their slugger swinging a hot bat, and their pitching staff locked in tight. Boston leaves Fenway Park after this one with real concerns about their early season trajectory. If Stanton stays hot and Gil keeps pitching like this, the AL East just got a whole lot more intimidating for everyone wearing anything other than pinstripes.
