Turang’s 4-RBI Day Powers Brewers Past Marlins

The Milwaukee Brewers came to loanDepot park on Saturday and reminded the Miami Marlins exactly why October baseball is a distant memory for this franchise. Behind a masterclass performance from Brandon Woodruff and a virtually unstoppable Brice Turang, Milwaukee dispatched the Marlins 5-2 in a game that was far more lopsided than the final score suggests.

Let’s start with the obvious: Turang was exceptional. The Brewers shortstop went 2-for-3 with a home run and drove in four runs, serving as the offensive anchor Milwaukee needed against a Sandy Alcantara who, frankly, looked completely off his game. Alcantara lasted just five innings, surrendering four hits and two earned runs while walking six batters. That’s not the dominant lefty we’ve grown accustomed to watching in Miami. That’s a pitcher gripping too hard and missing his spots by a country mile.

Brice Turang's two-run homer (4)

Turang’s two-run blast in the fifth inning off Alcantara gave the Brewers crucial breathing room, and his line-drive single in the sixth added insurance. This is exactly the kind of production the Brewers envisioned when they built this lineup. Turang has the goods, and on Saturday, he showcased every last one of them.

Woodruff Silences the Marlins Bats

While Turang was putting on an offensive clinic, Brandon Woodruff was conducting a pitching symphony. The Brewers ace went seven strong innings, allowing just three hits and one earned run while striking out four. Woodruff didn’t overpower anyone, but he didn’t need to. He was surgical, precise, and absolutely in control of the zone. Four walks in five innings by Alcantara versus Woodruff’s lone walk tells you everything you need to know about command on Saturday.

Brandon Woodruff K's four vs. Marlins

The Marlins’ two runs felt almost cosmetic against such dominant pitching. Connor Norby‘s RBI single in the second got Miami on the board, and Heriberto Hernández’s late RBI groundout in the ninth provided a meaningless consolation prize. But for six and a half innings, Woodruff made sure the Marlins understood they were overmatched.

Another Disappointing Day for Sandy

Here’s what’s most troubling for Miami fans: Alcantara, one of the few bright spots in an otherwise bleak organizational landscape, simply wasn’t good. Six walks in five innings is unacceptable for a pitcher of his caliber. He got out of jams, sure, but the Brewers were patient and eventually made him pay. This wasn’t the Sandy Alcantara who’s supposed to carry this franchise through 162 games. This was a guy fighting himself more than fighting Milwaukee’s hitters.

Brice Turang's two-run double

Abner Uribe closed the door with a save, needing just 0.2 innings to secure the victory. The Brewers’ bullpen was pristine, which is all you can ask when your starter goes seven innings strong.

For Milwaukee, this was a statement win against a division rival, even if that rival is currently inhabiting the basement of the NL East. The Brewers showed they can win with dominant pitching and timely hitting, and Turang proved he belongs in the conversation with the league’s best shortstops. As for the Marlins, Saturday was another reminder that until this organization makes real moves to compete, these kinds of losses will continue to pile up.
