Arenado chipped in with an RBI single, and most damningly for Atlanta, it was Ildemaro Vargas who broke the game open in the fourth inning with a two-run triple that gave Arizona a 3-1 advantage.

Tale of Two Bullpens

Here’s where things get interesting, and frankly, where the Braves’ pitching staff deserves scrutiny. Joel Payamps, tasked with closing out the game, simply didn’t have it when the pressure mounted. Meanwhile, Taylor Rashi earned the win despite throwing just one inning, which tells you everything you need to know about how chaotic this game became down the stretch. The D-backs’ bullpen found ways to escape trouble, with Robert Suarez absolutely shutting down the Braves in the eighth inning, striking out the side.
