Yamamoto Dominates as Dodgers Silence Braves in Game 3

Yoshinobu Yamamoto reminded everyone on Tuesday night why the Dodgers handed him that massive contract. With the series hanging in the balance at Truist Park, the Japanese ace was absolutely untouchable, striking out 10 batters across seven innings while surrendering just four hits and a single run. This was peak Yamamoto. This was postseason baseball at its most dominant.

Sale pitched well for the Braves, finishing with seven strikeouts in five innings, but he couldn’t match the brilliance across the diamond. The Dodgers struck first in the fourth inning when Enrique Hernandez crushed a two-run shot to left field, with Andy Pages scoring ahead of him. Moments later, Freddie Freeman, that traitorous former Brave who somehow still makes contact look effortless, followed with a solo blast to right-center. That was all Yamamoto and Edwin Diaz would need. Three runs felt like thirty with the way Yamamoto was painting corners.

Atlanta scratched one back in the fifth when Drake Baldwin grounded out to Freeman, allowing Mauricio Dubon to scurry home from third. It was a cosmetic run, nothing more. The Braves looked lost at the plate for most of the evening, completely overwhelmed by Yamamoto’s arsenal. Sure, Dubon made a spectacular catch to rob a homer, and Austin Riley made two impressive plays, but baseball isn’t won on defense alone. You need to score runs, and Atlanta simply couldn’t muster the offense.

Freeman’s Homecoming Haunts the Braves

Field View: Freddie Freeman's solo home run

There’s something almost poetic about Freddie Freeman hitting a home run off the Braves in October. The man spent 15 years building this franchise into a winner, and now he’s the enemy. Freeman went 1-for-4 with that crucial RBI, a stark reminder that Atlanta’s front office made a catastrophic error letting him walk to Los Angeles. Meanwhile, Hernandez was the real story offensively, collecting two RBIs on his two-run blast in the fourth. Sometimes the supporting cast steals the show.

Edwin Diaz came in for the save in the ninth and looked crisp, recording one hit, zero earned runs, and zero walks in a clean inning. The Dodgers’ bullpen has been sharp all series, and Diaz continuing that trend is exactly what LA needs if they’re going to make a legitimate run.

Walt Weiss on facing Yamamoto, more in Game 3 loss

Walt Weiss and the Braves now face a must-win situation. Yamamoto was exceptional, Sale wasn’t bad, but baseball requires execution on both sides of the ball. Atlanta’s bats went silent when it mattered most. That’s the postseason. One bad night can derail an entire season. The Braves got out-pitched and out-hit by a team that’s playing with a swagger that suggests they believe they’re destined for something special. If Atlanta can’t generate more offensive firepower in Game 4, this series is going to get very ugly very quickly.
