Fried Dominates as Yankees Dismantle Twins, 8-1

The New York Yankees came to Minnesota on Tuesday and reminded the Twins exactly why they’re built to win in October. Behind a masterclass from Max Fried and timely power from their middle order, the Yankees dismantled the Twins 8-1 at Target Field in a game that was decided early and never competitive after.

Fried was absolutely brilliant, allowing just six hits and one run over seven innings while striking out six. He didn’t walk a soul. This is what a Cy Young caliber pitcher looks like when he’s locked in. Bailey Ober, meanwhile, couldn’t escape the fifth inning without getting knocked around. The Twins’ starter gave up nine hits and three earned runs in just 5.1 innings of work. It was a mismatch from pitch one.

Max Fried’s seven innings of one-run ball

Cody Bellinger got the Yankees rolling in the first inning with a two-run homer to right center off Ober, and that’s when you knew this was going to be a long night for Minnesota. Bellinger finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs, continuing his strong September surge. But it was Spencer Jones who truly put the game out of reach in the sixth inning.

Jones launched a three-run bomb that made it 7-1 and essentially ended any lingering doubt. The kid is 10 home runs deep on the season and has quietly become a force in this Yankees lineup. That’s the kind of power stroke that makes teams nervous heading into October. Between Jones and Bellinger, the Yankees had five of their eight runs on two swings of the bat.

Twins Couldn’t Muster Anything Resembling Resistance

Minnesota scored their only run in the second inning when Emmanuel Rodriguez drove in Royce Lewis on a sharp ground ball single. But that was it. That was the whole offensive output for the Twins. Luke Keaschall went 3-for-4, which tells you everything you need to know about this game: their best hitter went 3-for-4 in a 1-8 loss. The Twins simply got out-pitched and out-hit, period.

Emmanuel Rodriguez's RBI single

Heliot Ramos added an RBI double in the sixth, and Jose Caballero plated a run late with a single. This wasn’t just one-dimensional Yankees baseball, this was comprehensive domination. New York got contributions up and down the lineup, moved runners, and took advantage of their opportunities. That’s playoff baseball in September.

A Statement Before the Stretch

With the postseason around the corner, this is exactly the kind of performance the Yankees needed. A complete game from their ace, power production from multiple sources, and situational execution. Derek Shelton got himself ejected in the eighth inning, which seemed to be the only thing that could wake up Target Field, but even that felt like a deflection from the reality that his team got beat convincingly.

Aaron Boone discusses the Yankees' 8-1 win

The Twins entered Tuesday in a tight playoff race, and this loss stings. But more importantly for the Yankees, they’re rounding into form at precisely the right moment. Fried looks like a Cy Young winner. Bellinger and Jones are swinging hot bats. And their pitching depth is undeniable. If they keep playing like this, the rest of baseball better be prepared for October.
