Orioles Explode in Third, Bury Guardians 9-5 at Camden Yards

The Baltimore Orioles put on a clinic in offensive execution Wednesday night at Camden Yards, dismantling the Cleveland Guardians 9-5 in a game that was decided before most fans finished their second inning hot dogs. This wasn’t a competitive baseball game after the third inning, despite what the final score might suggest to casual observers.

Let’s be blunt: Foster Griffin‘s pitching line was an absolute disaster. Two and one-third innings pitched, seven hits, eight earned runs, and only four strikeouts. That’s not major league baseball. That’s batting practice with someone wearing a uniform that happens to say “pitcher” on the back. The Guardians’ coaching staff should have had the bullpen warming up in the second inning, not the third. This was malpractice.

Orioles score eight runs in the 3rd inning

The Orioles’ third-inning eruption was a masterclass in how to beat a pitcher who can’t find the strike zone or execute. Dylan Beavers led the charge with a two-run double early in the frame, and suddenly Camden Yards came alive. Then came the parade: Christian Encarnacion-Strand’s HBP, Jackson Holliday’s line drive single, Rece Hinds’ sacrifice fly, Jeremiah Jackson’s single, Leody Taveras’ single, and Beavers again with an RBI single. Eight runs. One inning. Eight different ways to beat a helpless pitcher.

Dylan Beavers' two-run double

Beavers finished with two hits and three RBIs, proving he belonged in the middle of this Orioles lineup. Coby Mayo added a solo shot in the sixth that provided an exclamation point on an already decided contest. This was a Baltimore offense firing on all cylinders against a Cleveland rotation that simply couldn’t hold up its end of the bargain.

Cleveland’s Futile Heroics

To the Guardians’ credit, Chase DeLauter and Nathaniel Lowe kept them alive with early fireworks. DeLauter’s two-run homer in the first put Cleveland up early, and Lowe’s two-run blast in the sixth kept the scoreboard competitive. But home runs are solo artists, and they don’t win games when your pitching is getting shelled like a beach in wartime.

Nathaniel Lowe's two-run home run (17)

The problem for Cleveland is simple: you cannot win baseball games when you give up eight runs in one inning to a hungry home team. The Guardians had enough offensive pop to compete, but it meant nothing against an Orioles team that broke through early and often.

Shane Baz Shows His Worth

On the flip side, Shane Baz reminded everyone why he belongs in the conversation with the AL’s elite starters. Five and two-thirds innings, six hits, five earned runs, and five strikeouts. That’s a winning pitcher’s line, especially when your offense is putting up nine runs. Baz didn’t dominate, but he did his job: he won the game. Rico Garcia‘s 1.2 innings of scoreless relief sealed it cleanly, striking out three in the process.

Rico Garcia escapes jam in the 8th

The Orioles are the better team right now, and they proved it Wednesday night. They capitalized on early mistakes, executed in the clutch, and didn’t let the Guardians’ home runs derail their game plan. That’s what good baseball looks like. That’s playoff baseball, and Baltimore played it on Wednesday.
