Peralta Dominates as Rays Silence Lindor’s Early Heroics

Francisco Lindor made an early statement Tuesday night at Tropicana Field, launching a leadoff homer into right field to give the Mets an early 1-0 lead. It was a sharp, authoritative swing, the kind that suggests a team ready to impose its will. For about one inning, New York looked dangerous.

Jared Young scored on a walk in the seventh to account for the Mets’ second run, another reminder that this game got away from New York early and never came back.

The Mets came to Tampa Bay hoping to steal one on the road. Instead, they left with nothing but questions about how their pitching staff and lineup both underperformed in the same game. That’s a losing formula in September, when every game matters and every loss chips away at your postseason hopes.

The Rays, meanwhile, continue to show why they’re a legitimate contender, even in a year that seemed destined to be a rebuild. Peralta’s performance was the kind of gutsy, dominant outing that wins important games down the stretch.
