You don’t win games on the road with that kind of pitching performance.

The Giants had their chances early. Drew Gilbert‘s fielder’s choice grounder in the seventh scored Osleivis Basabe to give San Francisco a 1-0 lead. It felt like it might hold up for most of this game. But the Tigers’ patience paid dividends, and when Max Clark grounded into a force out in the tenth, Lee scampered home to make it 2-1. Those two runs in the final frame proved to be all Detroit needed.

Detroit’s Road Trip Excellence Continues

This victory keeps the Tigers’ impressive road trip rolling. Coming into the Bay Area, they had questions about whether they could win on enemy turf against quality competition. Sunday answered that question emphatically. Hao-Yu Lee and the rest of Detroit’s lineup refused to quit, grinding through ten innings against a Giants team that simply couldn’t close the deal when it mattered most.

The Giants left plenty of meat on the bone here. Logan Webb pitched reasonably well in regulation, but Sam Hentges’ inability to pitch just one clean inning in the tenth was a killer.
