Phillies Dominate Rain-Delayed Orioles for Shutout Victory

The Philadelphia Phillies showed up to play on Sunday at Oriole Park, and the Baltimore Orioles… well, they showed up too, but that’s about all you can say. Tim Mayza got the win out of the bullpen, though truthfully, the Phillies could have thrown just about anyone out there and gotten the same result. The Orioles simply had no answers. Baltimore managed just two hits through three innings before Kyle Bradish was mercifully pulled from the game. You can’t win games when your starter is unable to locate his fastball and your hitters can’t lay off pitches in the zone.

This was one of those games where the outcome was determined by the third inning, and frankly, that’s being generous to the Orioles. The Phillies came to play, the Orioles came to lose, and that’s exactly how it played out. In a sport where parity is supposedly the name of the game, Sunday afternoon at Camden Yards was a stark reminder that talent still matters, execution still matters, and sometimes one team is just flat-out better than the other. The Phillies proved that on Sunday, and did so in emphatic fashion.
