Rangers Squandered Opportunities Late

Texas had their chances. Jake Burger‘s two-run shot in the seventh pulled the Rangers within striking distance and seemed to have momentum on their side. Wyatt Langford was productive all afternoon, recording two hits including an RBI double in the sixth. But neither player could deliver the knockout blow when it mattered most, and that’s the ballgame in baseball.

Joe Ross’s brief, disastrous appearance in relief set the tone early for the Rangers’ pitching woes. One inning, two hits, two earned runs, and a walk. That’s not acceptable from a veteran arm, especially in a game this close. Texas’s starting pitching didn’t factor into the decision, but the bullpen’s inability to match the Padres down the stretch proved costly.
