Twins Demolish Rangers 12-2: Larnach, Clemens Lead Offensive Onslaught

The Minnesota Twins showed up to Globe Life Field on Tuesday night ready for war, and the Texas Rangers were caught completely unprepared for the offensive assault that was coming. When the dust settled on this lopsided affair, Minnesota had dismantled Texas 12-2 in a performance that was part clinic, part demolition derby. This wasn’t a ballgame. This was a public execution of a pitching staff that simply had no answers.

Let’s start with the elephant in the room: Kumar Rocker was absolutely shelled. The Rangers righthander couldn’t even make it out of the fourth inning, surrendering six runs on seven hits in just 3.1 innings of work. Two walks didn’t help his cause either. When your presumed ace can’t throw strikes and can’t get outs, you’re going to get embarrassed. And that’s exactly what happened here. Rocker looked like a minor leaguer facing major league bats, and there’s no kinder way to say it.

Trevor Larnach's first-pitch leadoff homer (4)

The Twins wasted no time making their intentions known. Trevor Larnach, that sneaky underrated performer, launched a first-pitch home run off Rocker in the top of the first. One swing, one out of the park. Message sent. Byron Buxton scored on a Josh Bell single moments later, and suddenly Minnesota had a 2-0 lead before most fans had finished their first beer.

Kody Clemens' three-run homer (11)

But the real damage came in the third and fourth innings. Kody Clemens, who’s quietly having a tremendous season, smashed a three-run bomb in the third to extend the lead to 5-0. Then came the fourth inning, when the Twins scored five more runs and essentially made this thing a laugher. Royce Lewis drove in two with a sharp single. Josh Bell doubled home two more runs, including a throwing error from Brandon Nimmo that added insult to injury. Luke Keaschall capped off the inning with an RBI single. Just relentless, methodical baseball.

Josh Bell's RBI double scores two

Zebby Matthews, meanwhile, was the portrait of excellence on the mound. Seven innings, eight hits, two runs, zero walks, four strikeouts. That’s the kind of performance that wins ballgames. That’s the kind of pitching that makes a manager look like a genius for trusting his starter. Matthews didn’t dominate in the strikeout department, but he was efficient, he was sharp, and he was in complete control. He made the Rangers look foolish, which admittedly wasn’t a difficult task on this particular Tuesday night.

Trevor Larnach powers Twins to 12-2 win

Larnach was the standout performer, collecting four hits in six at-bats with a home run and an RBI. He was locked in from the first pitch and never let up. This is the kind of performance that gets you on SportsCenter’s top ten. This is the kind of night that gets written about and remembered.

Rangers’ Offense Nowhere to be Found

Texas managed exactly two runs, both coming late after the outcome was already decided. Elias Diaz knocked in one on a double in the fifth. Ezequiel Duran scored on a force out in the fourth. Yawn. When your team can’t score runs and your pitching can’t hold the line, you get blown out. Simple as that. The Rangers looked like a team playing out the string, going through the motions. Skip Schumaker’s squad had no answer for what Minnesota brought to the table on Tuesday night.

Bottom Line

This was a complete and utter mismatch. The Twins were superior in every facet: pitching, hitting, defense, execution. They came to Arlington and put on a clinic. Texas never recovered from that first-inning home run and paid the price for Rocker’s early exit. That’s baseball in 2026.
