Mariners Unleash Offensive Onslaught in Oakland, Rout Athletics 9-2

Before Oakland could even catch their breath, Luke Raley connected on a two-run shot that cleared the right-center wall, and Dominic Canzone added another two-run blast moments later. Just like that, the Mariners had built a 7-0 lead against a completely overmatched opponent.

Bryce Miller, Seattle’s starter, pitched with the confidence of a man whose offense had given him a security blanket. Five innings, five hits, two earned runs, four strikeouts, no walks. That’s not a Cy Young-caliber performance, but it’s exactly what you need when you’re ahead 7-0 in the third inning. Miller didn’t need to be spectacular. He needed to be competent, and he was. The Mariners’ pitching staff shut the door on what should have been a potential Oakland comeback.

Arozarena and Crawford Keep Piling On

Randy Arozarena went absolutely nuclear on Monday, finishing 3-for-5 with three RBIs and a home run. The man was a one-man wrecking crew. J.P. Crawford added a solo shot in the fourth inning for good measure, and Arozarena capped off the evening with a monster 437-foot two-run blast in the ninth inning. At some point, you have to feel bad for Civale and whatever Athletics relief pitcher was tasked with mopping up. This was a team firing on all cylinders offensively.

Shea Langeliers smacked a solo homer in the eighth inning for Oakland’s token gesture of resistance, but by then the game was already a formality. The Athletics have serious structural problems if they’re going to get run out of their own ballpark like this. This wasn’t a competitive matchup. This was target practice.

The Mariners came to Oakland hungry and left satisfied. The Athletics? They got exposed as thoroughly as any team can be on a Monday night in May.
