Guardians Outlast Angels Behind Messick’s Steady Hand

The Guardians scraped together enough runs to escape, while the Angels’ offensive firepower, led by an explosive Zach Neto, ultimately came up one swing short.

Cleveland’s bats got hot early and set the tone immediately. Angel Martinez opened the bottom of the first with a no-doubt homer to left field, sending the home crowd into an immediate frenzy. Neto has been exactly what Los Angeles needed in their lineup, a spark plug who can change games with one swing. But one swing wasn’t enough on this Wednesday night. The Guardians quietly reclaimed the lead in the sixth when Daniel Schneemann pushed across Rhys Hoskins with a line drive single, and that proved to be the game-winner in what turned into a defensive slugfest.
