Adell’s Two-Homer Day Lifts Angels Past Blue Jays, 6-1

What makes this performance all the more impressive is that Adell wasn’t doing this in a vacuum. Oswald Peraza contributed a two-run homer in the fifth inning, and Vaughn Grissom laced a sharp two-run double to center field, though he was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple on what was an overly aggressive slide. These Angels weren’t just scraping by. They were manufacturing runs and playing clean baseball when it mattered most.

Soriano Dominates, Lauer Implodes

On the mound, José Soriano was nothing short of magnificent for Los Angeles. The right-hander went 7.2 innings, allowing just five hits and one earned run while striking out seven batters. That’s the kind of efficient pitching that wins ballgames. He was in command, he trusted his stuff, and the Blue Jays hitters looked absolutely helpless against him for most of the afternoon.

Eric Lauer, meanwhile, was a disaster. The Blue Jays starter couldn’t make it out of the fifth inning, surrendering six runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts. When you’re getting hammered like that before the sixth inning even arrives, you’re not doing your team any favors. Lauer had no answer for the Angels lineup, and the Blue Jays offense never picked up the slack to compensate.

Toronto’s Anemic Response

The Blue Jays’ only run came in the bottom of the first inning, when Kazuma Okamoto drove in Daulton Varsho with a sharp double down the line. It was a nice moment for Toronto, a chance to believe they might actually string together something resembling a competitive ballgame. But that’s all it was: a moment. From that point forward, the Angels took over completely. Soriano and company shut down the Blue Jays bats with ruthless efficiency.

This wasn’t the kind of loss Toronto can simply shake off. When a visiting team comes into your house and wins 6-1 behind that kind of pitching, it’s a referendum on execution and fundamentals. The Angels executed. The Blue Jays didn’t. Simple as that. Adell’s two-homer day was the cherry on top of a dominant performance from start to finish.
