Davis Martin Dominates as White Sox Shut Out Angels in Lopsided Victory

There are shutouts, and then there are shutouts that feel like they could have gone either way if the baseball gods smiled a little differently. This wasn’t one of those games. The Chicago White Sox came to Angel Stadium on Monday night and absolutely dismantled the Los Angeles Angels, winning 6-0 in a performance that was every bit as dominant as the final score suggests.

Davis Martin was simply unhittable. The White Sox right-hander allowed just five hits over seven innings while striking out 10 batters without issuing a single walk. That’s the kind of pitching line that ends conversations. Jose Soriano, meanwhile, lasted just four innings for the Angels, giving up eight hits and five earned runs while walking three. The contrast couldn’t have been starker, and it set the tone for everything that followed.

Early Onslaught Sets the Tone

The White Sox came out swinging from the opening pitch. Chase Meidroth worked a line drive single through the middle in the first inning, scoring Sam Antonacci immediately. Before the Angels could even settle in, Andrew Benintendi followed with another single to center, bringing home Munetaka Murakami to make it 2-0. Two runs in the first? On a Monday night in Southern California? That’s not a recipe for an Angels comeback. That’s a statement.

Soriano had nowhere to hide. The Angels’ starter was getting shelled early, and everyone in Angel Stadium knew it. The White Sox had found something, and they weren’t about to let it go.

 Murakami, Vargas hit back-to-back homers

The Murakami-Vargas Showcase

If the first inning was a warning shot, the fourth inning was the full broadside. Munetaka Murakami, continuing what appears to be an outstanding 2026 campaign, crushed a 429-foot two-run home run into center field. That’s not a cheapie. That’s a man swinging a baseball bat like he owns the place. Then, in the kind of back-to-back sequence that makes opposing pitchers want to request a trade, Miguel Vargas followed with his own solo shot to right-center.

Just like that, it was 6-0, and the game was completely over. The Angels had been outmatched at every level, and frankly, it showed. Benintendi was putting on a clinic at the plate with four hits in five at-bats, while Murakami and Vargas combined for five hits and three home runs. This wasn’t a competitive ballgame by the fourth inning, and everyone knew it.

Colson Montgomery added another run on the board in the eighth with an RBI single, just to pile on for good measure, though at that point it felt like adding insult to substantial injury.

The Angels, for their part, couldn’t generate any meaningful offense. Mike Trout’s presence in center field mattered little when everything was hit to him or flying past him. This was a complete shutdown performance by Chicago, the kind of game where you tip your cap and move on to tomorrow, hoping for better results.

The White Sox showed Monday night why they’re a team that cannot be taken lightly. When their pitching is this sharp and their bats are this hot, they’re virtually unstoppable. The Angels will want to forget this one quickly.
