Marlins Steal Show in LA, Stun Dodgers with Late Heroics

The Miami Marlins waltzed into Dodger Stadium on Wednesday and did what few teams manage to do in the City of Angels, steal a game from the Dodgers on their home turf. The final score of 3-2 doesn’t tell the whole story of a Marlins team that showed more grit and situational baseball than the supposedly superior Dodgers, who left too many runners on base and couldn’t muster enough offense when it mattered most.

This was a series-clinching victory for Miami, and it came in the form of classic road warrior baseball. Liam Hicks opened the scoring in the top of the second with a solo shot to right, establishing early that the Marlins weren’t going to be intimidated by the Dodgers’ storied pitching tradition. Esteury Ruiz followed suit in the fifth inning with his own solo blast to left field, showcasing a Marlins lineup that was patient, aggressive, and genuinely dangerous.

Dodgers Can’t Generate Enough Firepower

The Dodgers’ response was tepid at best. Alex Call‘s pop-up single to second in the bottom of the second scored Max Muncy to cut the deficit to 1, but Los Angeles never truly threatened until Dalton Rushing’s sixth-inning single plated Kyle Tucker, tying the game at 2-2. That’s it. That’s all the Dodgers could muster against Miami’s pitching staff. Will Klein‘s early exit after just two innings left questions about preparedness, and the Dodgers’ lineup seemed to be playing checkers while the Marlins were playing chess.

But the real dagger came in the eighth when Javier Sanoja lifted a pop-up to second that found its way into right field, scoring Xavier Edwards with what would prove to be the game-winner. This wasn’t a blast or a line drive that screamed inevitability. It was a scrappy, unglamorous single that encapsulated Miami’s entire approach: do whatever it takes to win.

Bullpen Excellence Seals the Deal

Andrew Nardi picked up the win after throwing a clean 1.0 innings, while Calvin Faucher locked down the save in the ninth despite walking three batters. That’s the kind of performance that makes you wonder if the Dodgers’ vaunted lineup might be more vulnerable than advertised this season. Faucher’s composed handling of pressure situations demonstrated a level of poise you don’t always see from Miami bullpen arms.

Condensed Game: MIA@LAD – 4/29/26

Dave Roberts will undoubtedly have plenty to discuss about this loss, and rightfully so. The Dodgers had opportunities and failed to capitalize. The Marlins, meanwhile, showed up on Wednesday ready to steal a game from one of baseball’s blue bloods, and they executed their game plan to near perfection. This isn’t some fluke upset. This is Miami sending a message that they belong in any conversation about competitive teams in the National League West.
