The Royals’ inability to scratch across a single run against a Yankees team that’s clearly hit its stride is damning. Bobby Witt Jr. managed a single, and that was the extent of Kansas City’s offensive highlights. They came to Yankee Stadium ready for a fight and found themselves in a complete mismatch.

The Yankees’ roster continues to look formidable. Judge is Judge, a perennial MVP candidate who’s now at nine home runs on the season. Rice is emerging as a legitimate offensive contributor. Even role players like Austin Wells and Grisham are contributing in meaningful ways. This team has the makings of something special if the pitching can hold up, and performances like Weathers delivered on Sunday suggest it can.

For the Royals, this was a wasted trip. Ragans needs to find his control before his next start, or Kansas City’s front office will need to make some difficult decisions. You cannot survive in this division with performances like that. The Yankees exposed every weakness in the Royals’ approach and left no doubt about which team belongs in this conversation right now.
