The problem was simple: Keller couldn’t eat innings, and once the Nationals jumped ahead 5-1 in the fourth inning, Pittsburgh’s comeback felt perpetually one run short. They scored four runs but needed one more, and baseball doesn’t deal in moral victories. Jake Mangum’s defense provided some highlight-reel moments, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the early deficit.
