By the time the Red Sox scratched out a couple of runs in the third on Jarren Duran‘s solo home run and a Caleb Durbin double, the game was long over. This was less a baseball game and more a public execution.

Garrett Crochet’s performance was nothing short of pathetic. The Red Sox left-hander lasted just 1.2 innings, surrendering nine hits and ten earned runs while walking three batters. That’s not a start, that’s a gift to the Twins’ offense. Alex Cora had to yank him before things got even uglier. When a starter can’t even get through two innings against a division rival at home, you’re begging for a season-long headache. This wasn’t a bad day. This was a complete failure of a professional pitcher to execute the most fundamental requirement of his job.

Against that backdrop, Bailey Ober looked like a future Cy Young candidate. The Twins’ starter went six innings, allowing just four runs on seven hits while striking out seven. He wasn’t spectacular, but he was exactly what you needed when your lineup is putting up thirteen runs. That’s how you win baseball games.

Twins’ Bats Put on a Clinic

Let’s talk about what the Twins actually accomplished Monday. Ryan Jeffers went absolutely nuclear, finishing 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. He was a one-man wrecking crew in the middle of the order, relentless and efficient. Victor Caratini also went deep with a three-run shot in that devastating second inning. Ryan Kreidler even got in on the action with a solo bomb. When four different players go yard in one game, you’re looking at a lineup firing on all cylinders.

Josh Bell contributed a two-run double, and the Twins manufactured additional runs through sharp contact and smart baseball. Byron Buxton‘s solo home run in the fifth was just salt on the wound at that point. This wasn’t just power hitters getting lucky. This was a complete offensive performance from top to bottom.

The Red Sox did manage to score six runs, which would normally be respectable. But when you’re facing an opponent that puts up thirteen, six looks pathetic. Duran’s two-run home run in the third was their only bright spot in an otherwise forgettable performance. Trevor Story added an RBI single in the sixth, and the offense scraped together a couple more runs late, but none of it mattered.

This was a statement victory for Minnesota. They didn’t just beat the Red Sox. They humiliated them in front of a Target Field crowd that got exactly what they came to see: dominant baseball from start to finish. Boston will need to make major adjustments if they want to compete in the AL East this season, starting with finding someone who can actually pitch the baseball.
